Salford Golfers To Tee Off In Egypt For The Grand Final Of The Uk’s Largest Amateur Golf Tournament

Two Salford golfers, who were ranked fourth in the Southern Finals of the UK’s largest amateur golf tournament , the Matchplay Championship this week, will now be heading to Egypt for a once in a lifetime Grand Final.

Nick Warring and Ian Watson took fourth place at the Matchplay Championship in the Men’s Pairs tournament at the Southern Regional Finals held in the Marriott St Pierre, in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

It’s the second time that Nick aged 43 and 39-year-old Ian have taken part in the championships and they were delighted to make it to the Grand Final.
“We’ve loved it. It’s been thoroughly enjoyable playing golf, great value for money and being filmed by Sky Sports and now getting through to Egypt is fantastic,” said Nick

The duo will compete in the Grand Final at the stunning Marriott Taba Heights Course in Egypt, set between the Red Sea and breathtaking mountain range, on May 8-15.

“We wish them the very best of luck and hope they do Salford proud. It really is a fantastic opportunity,” said John Woosey, Managing Director of golf insurance provider, The Golfers Club which promotes the Matchplay Championship.

They will get international flights to Egypt, seven nights’ full board accommodation in the 5-star Taba Heights Golf Resort and also three days of competition in the Grand Final as well as attending a lavish gala prize winning dinner.

Now Matchplay Championship has announced it will be hosting its 2010-11 grand final at The Els Club, Dubai. With an entry fee of just £20 per person, the venue is a major coup for the prestigious tournament which was launched in 2003.

“We’re delighted to be able host the 2010-11 Matchplay Championship at such a superb course as The Els Club. It makes the tournament even more attractive for keen golfers” added John.

Entries are now open for the 2010-11 tournament which take place on May 7-14, 2011, at the stunning course designed by Ernie Els, winner of a record seven World Matchplay titles.

They have until June 30 to enter and will then take part in regional qualifier rounds before a North and South regional final. In all 36 finalists will make it to the Dubai Grand Final, staying at the sumptuous Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel.

Headline sponsors of the event are Direct Golf UK, Rewards4Golf.com and Golf Monthly and the tournament, as well as the regional finals, will be covered by Sky Sports and the Daily Telegraph.
