GameStop Announces Additional Downloadable Content to Its Growing List of Digital Products

GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) announced today the addition of Sony downloadable content (DLC) to its current digital catalog of add-on content. Earlier this year, the Company pioneered the technology of selling digital downloadable content in more than 4,400 U.S. stores, making it the only brick and mortar retailer of such content.

The technology established by GameStop in partnership with Microsoft and Sony enables customers to walk in to any GameStop in the U.S. and buy digital add-on content for console games from Sony and Microsoft. Customers now have the ability to purchase DLC with any form of payment including credit, cash and trade credits. Last year, GameStop returned more than $1 billion in trade credits for pre-owned games, and those customers are eligible to apply their trade credits toward any game purchase, including DLC.

“As part of our digital strategy, our goal is to help make extended game play of popular titles discoverable for our customers,” said GameStop President Tony Bartel. “In many cases, customers aren’t even aware of certain add-on content for their favorite video games, and our in-store DLC centers are a great way to discover what’s available."

"DLC content, which typically costs between $10 and $15, also makes terrific holiday gifts for gamers who enjoy playing titles with available add-on content. To make this work, we partnered very closely with Microsoft and Sony to link our point of sale directly into their systems in order to provide customers with instantaneous access to the DLC they wish to purchase. We anticipate we’ll complete the nationwide rollout of Sony DLC within a few short weeks in order to service customers during the busy holiday shopping season.”

Consumers can learn about downloadable content offerings at their local GameStop by consulting with a trusted Game Advisor or by looking up available DLC on an in-store Interactive Game Guide. More than 1,600 stores currently have GameStop’s proprietary Internet-enabled kiosk called the Interactive Game Guide. Beginning next week downloadable content can also be purchased at GameStop.com/downloads.
