GameStop and IGN Combine Media and Retail Offerings to Transform the Online Video Games Experience

GameStop (NYSE: GME), the world's largest video game and multi-channel entertainment software retailer, and IGN Entertainment, the leading online media network for video game enthusiasts, have announced an exclusive, large-scale partnership that combines content from IGN with expert review content from Game Informer Magazine to make GameStop.com a single destination for gamers who want to maximize their game experience.

Together, GameStop and IGN will integrate their offerings to enrich the online experience for video game fans seeking information about games from early announcement to post-purchase. It represents an important evolution in the way consumers interact with games online as they seek richer and more relevant content.

IGN will serve as the exclusive online advertising and sponsorship representative for GameStop.com and GameInformer.com. By extending its reach to GameStop sites, IGN will now be able to connect advertisers with one of the largest audiences on the internet.

“Until now, the games media experience and the games retail experience have been disconnected. Now we’ll be able to connect brands and games publishers with video gamers across the complete game purchase funnel – from discovery and awareness to purchase,” said Charles Barrett, Senior Vice President of Sales for IGN Entertainment.

“This is one of the foundational pieces to our digital strategy as we seek to position GameStop.com as the definitive single destination for gamers who want to discover and purchase new games, play games online and socialize with other players,” said Shawn Freeman, GameStop’s Senior Vice President of Digital Commerce. “As the fastest growing gaming website in the U.S. and second in size only to Amazon.com, we look forward to offering game fans a first look at our integrated site in 2011.”

GameStop will integrate IGN’s professional reviews, previews and other premium video games content across its online storefront, while game product pages on IGN.com will feature GameStop “Buy Now” buttons, exposing users to commerce opportunities, pre-order bonuses and more.

Presenting a similar ad product mix on GameStop as on IGN.com, the partnership will offer unified buying opportunities for advertisers. The first ads are slated to launch in the first quarter of 2011.

As part of the partnership, GameStop’s online traffic will be rolled into IGN’s comScore numbers. In November 2010, the combined reach of GameStop’s properties with IGN Entertainment hit 45 million unique users worldwide.
