Radiologist Awarded 2011 Hitachi Medical Systems/RSNA Grant

The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research & Education (R&E) Foundation awarded 2011 Hitachi Medical Systems/RSNA grant to Vinay Duddalwar, M.D. The grant is made possible by Hitachi’s generous support of the RSNA R&E Foundation.

The Hitachi Medical Systems/RSNA Research Seed Grant enables investigators to test hypotheses and conduct feasibility studies en route to major trials. These pilot phases of projects are critical to the development of applications for funding from major corporate and federal sources. The grant award is $40,000 for a one-year study.

Vinay Duddalwar, M.D., University of Southern California, will conduct a pilot study on the use of contrast enhanced ultrasound to evaluate and manage renal masses in patients with poor renal function. This technology may prove to be an effective imaging modality to differentiate atypical masses and complex cystic lesions without the use of ionizing radiation.

The RSNA R&E Foundation is awarding a total of 74 grants in 2011 valued at $2.7 million. “Hitachi’s generosity will support research for new products, new technologies, new tools and new treatments that are waiting to be discovered,” said Theresa C. McLoud, M.D., Chair of the RSNA R&E Foundation Board of Trustees. “There is nothing more critical to the future of radiology than the ownership of research and scientific inquiry that ultimately results in improved patient care.”

"Hitachi Medical Systems is pleased to support the RSNA Research and Education Foundation," said Sheldon Schaffer, Vice President and General Manager of MR/CT, “we appreciate the value of this contribution to the continuing advancement of medical imaging".
