Solutions To Debt Crisis Explored, Markets Close Higher

European leaders discussed solutions to the debt crisis lifting the markets to a higher close with the Dow gaining 75 points to 11,509. Nasdaq rose 15 points to 2622.

On the upside

Dynavax Technologies (Nasdaq: DVAX) will present results from a Phase 3 clinical trial of its hepatitis B vaccine HEPLISAV at the 51st Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy on September 18.

Fairholme Capital Management will acquire a 50% stake in St. Joe Company (NYSE: JOE).

Wedbush analyst Gil Luria upgraded eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) to an Outperform rating.


On the downside


Deutsche Bank initiated coverage of JinkoSolar Holding (NYSE: JKS) and Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL) with Hold ratings.


AAR (NYSE: AIR) reported higher first quarter earnings but the results fell short of analyst expectations.


Wunderlich Securities downgraded American Superconductor (Nasdaq: AMSC) to a Hold rating and slashed the price target to $6 from $12.


In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of 10 to 9 on the NYSE and by more than 10 to 9 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks edged up a fraction to 714.
