Vacation Rentals Aruba Expert Says Make Travel Resolutions This Year

Vacation rentals Aruba expert Matthew Smillie recommends people make travel resolutions for 2012 and start them off in a new destination.

ARUBA- A New Year is on the horizon, which has a lot of people reflecting how they spent the past 12 months. For some it was full of adventure and excitement, but for others it was more mundane than the year before. So how can those boring people start 2012 with a bang?

Make travel resolutions, said vacation rentals Aruba expert Matthew Smillie, owner of Aruba Villa Vacation Homes.

"People are so focused on the usual resolutions to eat healthier or lose weight that they forget about the most important resolution, enjoy life more," said Smillie, whose company also offers beach rentals and custom villa vacation packages.

"People live such hectic, stressful lives that they never take the time to enjoy life. This year people should vow to take a trip where they can accomplish a lot more than one resolution. On vacation they can learn something new, like surfing, reduce stress at the spa, spend time with family and friends and travel to a new place."

Hit the ground running in 2012 by visiting Aruba. Travelers can experience the unique festivities on the island, which are full of superstitions, tradition and fun, said the holiday villa rentals professional.

The traditional celebration on the island is called Dande, which comes from the Papiamento word meaning to have a good time. The tradition began after King William III of the Netherlands announced the slaves were free. After the last firework has flashed, troupes of traveling musicians, known as the Dande brighten the New Year with a song, offering blessings of goodwill and prosperity.

Fireworks are a huge part of the celebrations in Aruba as they are associated with superstations on the island. They are fired to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck to people.

"Visiting Aruba during New Years is a once in a lifetime experience and the best place to begin checking off resolutions," said Smillie.
