Diamond6 Strategy and Leadership and the Ford’s Theatre Society will collaborate on a leadership development seminar on January 31 that will coincide with the Society's Production of Necessary Sacrifices.


Diamond6 Strategy and Leadership and the Ford’s Theatre Society have announced that they will collaborate on a leadership development seminar on January 31, at the Society’s new Center for Education and Leadership (514 Tenth Street NW, Washington, D.C.). The seminar, led by Dr. Jeffrey McCausland of Diamond6 and featuring guests from the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, President Lincoln’s Cottage and the African American Civil War Museum, will investigate the lives and leadership of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and the women who were their partners.

This event is held in conjunction with the Society’s production of Necessary Sacrifices, a world-premiere play about Lincoln and Douglass presented January 20 through February 12, 2012 at the historic Ford’s Theatre.

This is the first seminar Diamond6 has offered in conjunction with the Ford’s Theatre Society and its new Center for Education and Leadership (opening February 2012). This program and others will offer teams, lifelong learners and young leaders the opportunity to examine strategies used by Abraham Lincoln to lead his divided cabinet and the divided country during one of the most difficult periods in our nation’s history.

“Necessary Sacrifices, written exclusively for Ford’s Theatre, is a rich depiction of key leadership principles and requirements - leading in a crisis, conflict resolution, the role of the media, and communicating strategic vision,” says Dr. Jeffrey McCausland, president and founder of Diamond6. “The play and the leadership seminar will be a remarkable opportunity to combine theater, the historical legacy of Lincoln and the study of leadership.”

“These workshops and seminars for youth and adults will help attendees learn valuable leadership lessons from the examples of Abraham Lincoln and his contemporaries, using history to enliven thinking about issues and situations in the here and now,” said Sarah Jencks, director of Education Programming for Ford's Theatre Society. “Collaborating with Diamond6 will help us broaden our reach and invite new audiences to explore and learn from Lincoln’s life and presidency.”

“Ford’s Theatre also features an exhibit that highlights the speeches Lincoln delivered during his presidency,” McCausland added. “These speeches summarize the strategic vision Lincoln had for the nation, how it evolved over time, and his efforts to communicate that vision to the diverse stakeholders he dealt with through one of the most difficult periods in our history.”

In addition to the leadership seminars at Ford’s Theatre and the Center for Education and Leadership, Diamond6 also uses other Washington, D.C. area venues, including the Civil War battlefields of Bull Run and Antietam, to offer additional lessons on how to lead large organizations during a crisis.
