Higher Close As New Home Prices Climb

The markets closed higher with the Dow gaining 34 points to 13,080 as new home prices climbed in February. Nasdaq rose 4 points to 3067.

On the upside

Cost Plus (Nasdaq: CPWM) reported sharply higher fourth quarter earnings that beat analyst expectations as revenue rose.

TheStreet listed Camelot Information Systems (NYSE: CIS) as one of five stocks under $10 that will rise.


A Seeking Alpha contributor expects Dex One's (NYSE: DEXO) balance sheet to improve.


On the downside


A drop in February new home sales weighed down shares of Beazer Homes (NYSE: BZH) and Louisiana-Pacific (NYSE: LPX).


Weight Watchers International (NYSE: WTW) announced that it expects to accept approximately 8.78 million common shares at $82 per share from a tender offer.

Overland Storage (Nasdsaq: OVRL) priced its public offering of approximately 3.2 million common shares at the discounted price of $2.00 per share.

In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 5 to 2 on the NYSE and by 2 to 1 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks climbed 8 points to 830.
