The report, which focused on BI vendors with self-service platform offerings, considered three main sets of criteria in its assessment: current offering, strategy, and market presence. The report found that relying too heavily on IT-centric BI support models is unsustainable in today's business environment. Self-service BI features are key to empowering business users.
In the report, Evelson notes the highly competitive BI functionality that Information Builders' WebFOCUS platform delivers for business users. He describes "the hidden gem inside WebFOCUS: the Visual Discovery product, which offers a respectable in-memory data exploration and discovery alternative to offerings from other, well-known in-memory BI vendors." Forrester also recognizes Information Builders' InfoAssist query builder and Active Technology reports capabilities.
