Flat Open As Consumer Prices Hold Steady

The markets opened flat with the Dow easing a fraction to 13,171 as consumer prices held steady in July. Nasdaq rose 5 points to 3022.
On the upside
JDS Uniphase (Nasdaq: JDSU) swung to a fourth quarter loss as revenue fell but the results were better than expected.
Nokia (NYSE: NOK) said that it will soon release a new phone that runs Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows Phone 8.
Abercrombie & Fitch (NYSE: ANF) reported sharply lower second quarter earnings but the results topped analyst expectations.
On the downside
Second quarter earnings fell for Staples (Nasdaq: SPLS) to miss analyst expectations prompting the office supplies retailer to cut its outlook for the year. Deere & Co. (NYSE: DE) reported higher third quarter revenue and earnings but the results missed expectations by a wide margin and the farm equipment maker lowered its full year guidance.
Sterne Agee downgraded OCZ Technology (Nasdaq: OCZ) to a Neutral rating.
In the broad market, advancing issues outpaced decliners by a margin of nearly 5 to 3 on the NYSE and by more than 5 to 3 on Nasdaq. The Russell 2000 which tracks small cap stocks added 3 points to 800.
