The inspiration for the footwear came from Utagawa Hiroshige’s work. Tokyo Laundry’s brand designer, Gareth, said ‘I love Hiroshige’s work and the simple line detailing running through the range together with the natural, earthy colour ways chosen was inspired by his Tokaido Fifty three station – Hakone drawing.’
Sachin Passi, a Director at Tokyo Laundry, commented on their decision to move in to footwear, ‘Over the last year or so we have been working on a range of accessories. We launched our first pieces in Autumn/Winter 2012 with our collection of bags, hats, belts, underpants and gloves. There was a demand coming from our customers for footwear and we saw it as a natural progression for the brand. We will continue to expand our range of accessories in the future."
