State of Origin – NSW Have A Plan To End Queensland Dominance

Daley takes charge of NSW for the first time in 2013 charged with the task of preventing Queensland from making it eight successive Origin wins and he will not be going hard at his players - instead preferring the softly, softly approach.

New South Wales coach Laurie Daley is going easy on his players ahead of the 2013 State of Origin opener on Wednesday as the Blues attempt to win the series for the first time since 2005.

“One thing I have been really conscious to do, is that I don’t want to overload the players,” said Daley during a press conference ahead of Game One. “I don’t want to be too near them when they are in their own space.

“I want it to be low key when we come to training or have a team meeting and then say ‘go off boys, enjoy your own space’ because between now and game day that is all you will be thinking about. We don’t want to overload them and we don’t want them to play the game now, we want them right at 8 o’clock on Wednesday.”

New South Wales will include two State of Origin debutants in the opening game of the three-game series, which gets underway at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday, with James Maloney and Blake Ferguson named in Daley’s starting line-up, which will be captained by Paul Gallen.

Queensland, once again coached by Mal Meninga and the defending champions having won the 2012 State of Origin series with a 21-20 in the deciding game, have fitness doubts over Johnathan Thurston and Darius Boyd ahead of Game One although both are expected to be passed fit to take part.

New South Wales have been heavily backed in the build up to Game One on Wednesday and are now favourites to get the series off to the perfect start. But Queensland remain the market leaders to win the series and make it eight straight wins.

Queensland play their home game at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on June 26th before the ANZ Stadium host the third and final game of the 2013 series on July 17th.
