Overall, this novel attempts to address the “spiritual needs” of humanity and its search for purpose through supernatural dependence, borrowing from the genre of science fiction and the “coming of age” archetype.

The author is a proud member of the Humanist community and wishes to introduce his novel, The Last Seminarian, for your review among a small entourage of humanist novels.

RM Damato has a strong religious background and apostasy took a long time. During his high school years during the 1970s, he attended a Catholic seminary and some of his friends left the seminary while others became priests—some leaving the priesthood, too. His rejection of Catholicism began in the seminary. During his years at the seminary, along with his association with the Catholic hierarchy, he became familiar with the politics of the institution—becoming very disillusioned and quickly accepting the principles of the Humanist movement that dates back to Voltaire, Thomas Paine’s The Age of Reason, Robert Ingersoll,  and Bertrand Russell.
