The journey continues, sequel to best-selling novel Breakfast with Buddha
PRLog - Dec. 21, 2013 - GEORGETOWN, Mass. -- PFP Publishing / AJAR Contemporaries has announced that Lunch with Buddha has been named to one of Kirkus Reviews "Best of 2013" lists.

In its original essay about the novel, published in the January 1st edition of the magazine, Kirkus gave the book a starred review calling it "engaging" and continuing  "In Otto Ringling, Merullo offers readers a hero that’s a bit jaded but loving; a little lost but searching. One can’t help but root for Otto, despite — or perhaps because of — his curmudgeonly tendencies, and hope that he finds the inner peace that, even if he doesn’t quite know it, he desperately seeks. . . [it's] a beautifully written and compelling story about a man’s search for meaning that earnestly and accessibly tackles some well-trodden but universal questions.A quiet meditation on life, death, darkness and spirituality, sprinkled with humor, tenderness and stunning landscapes."

This sequel continues the spiritual odyssey that began with Roland Merullo's best-selling novel, Breakfast with Buddha (now in its 15th printing).

Written in such a way that new readers can join this Seattle-to-North Dakota road trip without having read its predecessor, the book takes its main characters - Otto Ringling and Volya Rinpoche - on an American adventure that includes profound conversations, spectacular scenery, a cast of eccentric souls, and aspects of Americana that say a great deal about the perils and joys of modern life.

Otto is a book editor with a wise but unconventional sister, a family he adores, a beautiful home in the New York suburbs, and a sense of himself as being perfectly normal and sane. But, as it always does, life pushes him with the help of his famous companion to new levels of insight and awareness.

The release of this novel made headlines earlier this year when author Roland Merullo turned down a six figure advance from a major publishing house and chose to go instead with a small independent firm. Merullo's tour in support of Lunch with Buddha included visits to bookstores, libraries, universities and other venues in Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Roland Merullo is an awarding-winning author of 17 books including 12 works of fiction: Breakfast with Buddha was a nominee for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award; Vatican Waltz was named one of "The Best of 2013" by Publishers Weekly. The Talk-Funny Girl was a 2012 ALEX Award Winner and named a “Must Read for 2012” by the Massachusetts Library Association and the Massachusetts Center for the Book; Revere Beach Boulevard was named one of the “Top 100 Essential Books of  New England” by The Boston Globe; A Little Love Story  was named one of “Ten Wonderful Romance Novels” by Good Housekeeping; and Revere Beach Elegy won the Massachusetts Book Award for nonfiction.

Lunch with Buddha is available from your local independent bookstore, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Ingram, Baker & Taylor and other sales channels everywhere in hardcover, paperback or eBook format.
