In Huddersfield, France, staged against the dramatic backdrop of Lockwood viaduct, 6,000 people will be able to camp out and attend a three-day festival as the Tour de France rides through town in July 2014. The Stage 2 route of Le Grand Depart of the Tour de France is located right next to the site. The sprawling site is large enough to accommodate 2,000 campers and an additional 4,000 festival attendees.
Campers will also receive the added benefit of using the Lockwood Park Health and Fitness Club as well as other facilities at Huddersfield RUFC. The live music extravaganza called “Le Tour Fest 2014” is a three-day sports event sponsored by Heckmondwike’s Crown of Lights festival specialist Donal O’Driscoll, in collaboration with New Mill sound expert and promoter Darren Hollingworth and Lockwood Park.
The region is the ideal setting for so-called ‘glam-camping’ as the site will even offer proper indoor hot showers. The posh setting, covering 24 acres, will be transformed into a village providing food and drink, camping and ample parking. A gym and even saunas will be available for campers. The best live music that West Yorkshire can offer will fill the woods with the sound from 20 bands and artists already booked for the event. Popular hard rock Huddersfield band Storm and Roger Davies, a songsmith from Brighouse, are just two of the artists.
The demanding Yorkshire stages of the Tour de France will be displayed on a huge LED screen with an onsite film crew projecting all the live music on to the huge screen in the evenings. “After four months planning and hard work we’re delighted to be working closely with Lockwood Park and, in particular, Huddersfield RUFC and Lockwood Park Health and Fitness Club,” Donal said.
“They completely accept and are fully on board with what we’re trying to achieve here in giving everyone who attends this three-day event a very warm Yorkshire welcome and an unforgettable experience. We’re even extending the camping period to three days before and six days after the weekend itself to allow people from further afield the time to cycle the stages for themselves or just go out and explore this fantastic country,” he added.
