Same-day Semen Analysis Provides Faster Results, Reduces Stress
PRLog - Feb. 21, 2014 - ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Annapolis-based Anne Arundel Urology, one of Maryland’s largest private urology practices, has added a new Andrology/Male Infertility Program focused on the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility, a common factor in many couples’ inability to conceive.

“For many years, infertility was considered a female problem. But today we know that male infertility is present in up to half of couples,” says Judd Chason, MD, director of the program. “We felt this program was needed because often, the diagnosis and treatment of infertility occurs in settings that are focused on the female. The male partner may receive little or no medical attention. This is in spite of the fact that a semen analysis is now recommended by many experts as a preferred first step in diagnosing infertility problems.”

Dr. Chason, a board-certified urologist, specializes in the evaluation and treatment of male infertility. “At Anne Arundel Urology, we understand the impact of dealing with infertility—emotionally and physically,” Dr. Chason adds. “The prevalence of male infertility makes the semen analysis one of the most important fertility tests, and it should be performed prior to any therapy. That’s why our diagnostic approach includes same-day semen analysis performed right here in our Annapolis office. “

During their visit, patients of the program are asked to provide a semen sample, which is analyzed while they wait and discussed with them while they are there. If male infertility appears to be the problem, the urologist works with each patient and his partner to determine the best course of treatment.  This may include coordinating with a Reproductive Endocrinologist and/or Fertility Center to address the needs of the female partner—ensuring the highest chances of a successful pregnancy.

Dr. Chason earned his medical degree from the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago and completed his internship and residency at the University of Maryland. He is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American Urological Association and the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology.
