Five young western women buy souvenirs of their delightful trek and unknowingly smuggle heroin into Singapore. They are immediately detained and arrested by the authorities upon their entrance into the country.
PRLog - Mar. 28, 2014 - HAMPSTEAD, Md. -- This exciting novel opens with five unconnected western female backpackers being taken to the gallows at Changi Women’s Prison in Singapore to be hanged with all efforts to save them from execution to have seemingly failed. Singapore has a zero tolerance policy for Class A drug offenses with the penalty being - death by hanging.

Catherine Miller, a 24 year-old Scot, had loved her Himalayan trek on “The Tissue Trail,” a mountainous journey close to the Nepal border with Tibet. To remember her trek she bought a Tibetan doll as a memento. But she is shocked when she reaches Singapore and heroin is found hidden in the doll. The other four women - two Americans, one French and one German - suffer similar experiences. Media and diplomatic protests escalate as all the women proceed to trial and mandatory death sentences.

None of the women had any idea they were carrying heroin. Defense Attorney Philip Lee asks medical researcher Edward Thurston and charismatic CNN reporter Victor Najinski to work with him to find an explanation, knowing it will take something extraordinary and politically explosive to give the women even the remotest chance of survival. No progress is made until Thurston takes video footage of a high-altitude salt caravan coming in from Tibet close to “The Tissue Trail” and unwittingly discovers something he shouldn’t have discovered. This seemingly innocent act starts a chain reaction of detentions, interrogations and murders.

Garth Gunston was born in Derbyshire in the north of England where the Peak District gave him the taste for wild open country. Despite excelling at English, he pursued his interest in the effect of drugs on human tissue, which lead him to read pharmacology as part of a pharmacy degree. During his time at college he took a year out as President of the Student Union, an experience of influencing events, which guided him towards a commercial career rather than research or academia. It also resulted in him meeting his lifetime partner and wife Jacky. A career in medical communications followed working for the American agency Omnicom BBDO.  This international role enabled him to indulge his remote country passion on all parts of the globe.

Garth was involved with words from a young age, writing stories in exercise books as a teenager, working for the student newspaper and subsequently producing articles in the Pharmaceutical Journal. He finally combined his enjoyment of word-smithing with love for open country in his first book The Tissue Trail – an absorbing thriller which one professional critic described as "flowing with tension and intrigue…. a complex but well thought out thriller with a strong sense of authenticity."
