Maxwell Everson Aims for the NHL

Maxwell Everson is a gifted athlete and scholar.

EDINA, MN, April 18, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maxwell Everson grew up passionate about hockey and played it whenever and wherever he could. He developed into an outstanding player, and since graduating from high school has had an impressive hockey career. But every indication is that the best is yet to come.

Maxwell Everson hails from Edina, Minnesota. He was always a star player: on his high school hockey team he was the captain during his junior and senior years. He was on the blueline as a sophomore for the Edina High School Hornets, a team that featured five future NCAA players, including NHL draft picks Zach Budish and Anders Lee. Maxwell Everson's older brother Marshall also played that year for the Hornets.

As a junior, Maxwell Everson played twenty-seven games and scored three goals with nine assists, and led the Hornets' drive through the state tournament with six straight wins. The Hornets claimed the Minnesota AA state championship that year.

Even before Maxwell Everson got out of high school, pro scouts were taking note of his exceptional abilities. He spent the first part of the 2010-2011 season playing in the United States National Development program's U-18 (under 18) squad before returning to Edina High School for his senior season. In five games with the U-18 team, Maxwell Everson scored one goal and had one assist. In 17 games with the U-18 team, which included a trip to Sweden, Maxwell Everson had one goal with two assists. Back home with the Edina High School team, he scored four goals with 21 assists and was +5 in 28 games. Edina went on to the semifinals of the Minnesota AA State Tournament.

All of this is extremely impressive, but Maxwell Everson is much more than a talented hockey player. All through his years in the Edina school system, he was part of its Gifted and Talented program. He earned the Edina Scholar designation from Edina High School in his senior year, which means he graduated with an A average and demonstrated outstanding achievement and academic excellence. That same year he was given the Edina Scholar Athlete Award for 2011. That award is given to those student athletes who graduate on A Honor roll and earn a varsity letter.

Maxwell Everson has always displayed a strong social conscience. When he was in high school he was involved with Kidsight International, a charity started by his older brother Marshall. The Everson brothers collected old eyeglasses and distributed them to kids in developing countries. The two did that from 2005 to 2008. Maxwell Everson has also volunteered his time at Fairview Southdale Hospital, and in 2012 he had an internship at Urban Homeworks, a Minneapolis charity for inner city neighborhood development. That same year Maxwell Everson worked with the Quicksilvers organization, building homes for needy families.

The same year he graduated from high school, Maxwell Everson was selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the seventh round of the NHL draft. He has gone on to play with the Omaha Lancers in the amateur United States Hockey League, and NCAA hockey at Harvard. Maxwell Everson still has one more step to take, and it's the one that will elevate him to the National Hockey League.
