During the summer months, Tuna can be caught offshore. Mike Mitrow says the more courageous fisherman can venture fifteen to twenty miles offshore and go for sharks.

Once a fish has been hooked on a line, the real work begins, as one of the fishermen attempts to reel it in. A boat's captain plays a role in reeling in the fish by maneuvering the boat so that the fish remains behind the boat, while other members of the crew begin reeling in other lines to keep them getting tangled up with the fisherman reeling in the fish.

This is the moment that everyone has been waiting for, and Mike Mitrow says the experience is unlike anything else. "After hours of sitting with no bite on your line, the adrenaline rush when you see a 200 pound sailfish on the end of your line is indescribable," he says. "I enjoy the camaraderie and competition that comes along with entering sport fishing tournaments. I have found so many amazing places along the east coast to fish and I am looking forward to competing in my next tournament."

The fishing techniques that Mike Mitrow and his crew uses vary, depending on what kind of fish they are going for. When fishing for marlin, the use of live bait, such as mackerel and yellowtail has been popular. Artificial lures have also been effective when attempting to catch marlin. For many other types of billfish, Mike Mitrow and his team will use a trolling technique in which dead bait of up to 20 pounds is pulled slowly behind the boat.
