GE’s $10K Donation Helps HomeAid Create Nearly 1,000 New Beds for the Homeless

In addition to its ongoing, in-kind donation of kitchen appliances, GE (NYSE:GE) is donating $10,000 to HomeAid, a nonprofit that works with the building industry to build and renovate housing for service providers helping America’s homeless. Through the generosity of corporate partners such as GE, builders, their trade partners, financial institutions, and the public, HomeAid has built more than 360 multi-unit shelters where the homeless can rebuild their lives.

CEO of HomeAid America Peter Simons said, “GE has donated appliances to HomeAid projects throughout our twenty-five year history. Because of those in-kind donations, the charities we support were able to focus more resources on programs that help their clients gain self-sufficiency. Now, by also becoming a financial supporter of HomeAid America, GE is providing us with the resources we need to spread HomeAid to more cities around the country. With generous partners such as GE, we’re working towards an end to homelessness.”

HomeAid is currently building 32 new projects around the country that will add nearly 1,000 new beds for the homeless. GE’s donation of $10,000 will help these projects reach completion. Charlene, a graduate of the Glenhill Home built through HomeAid, knows just how much having a place to sleep can mean.

“My children are happy now because their mother is happy,” says Charlene. Because of financial turmoil, she felt like she’d failed her children. Once she visited Glenhill, she felt her spirits lift. The home was beautiful and she and her two little girls received counseling, financial classes, group support, home necessities and clothing. “Glenhill Home gave me a second chance to make it,” says Charlene who plans to own a home of her own and live a debt-free life.

Since 1989, GE has donated over $750,000 in financial and in-kind donations to HomeAid. GE General Manager of Contract Sales John Boyd said, “We are proud to support HomeAid as it continues to provide dignified housing to people like Charlene who are moving toward independence. GE’s financial donation will be put to good use throughout the next year—just as much as our in-kind donations of kitchen appliances are already hard at work in various facilities.”
