AOL Original “The Future Starts Here” by @TiffanyShlain Nominated for News And Documentary Emmy® Award

AOL, Inc. announced today that AOL Original “The Future Starts Here” by @TiffanyShlain has been nominated for a News And Documentary Emmy Award in the category of New Approaches: Arts, Lifestyle, Culture. This is AOL’s second Emmy nomination, coming on the heels of its nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Short-Form Nonfiction Program for “Park Bench With Steve Buscemi.”

“2014 has already been an incredible year for AOL Video and receiving back to back Emmy nominations feels like the icing on the cake. The fact that we are one of only a handful of pure digital players nominated is a major validation for the work we’ve put into making our original content the best of the best,” said Ran Harnevo, President of Video at AOL. “’The Future Starts Here’ is a project we’ve been extremely excited about since we first began working with Tiffany in 2013, and exemplifies the kind of imaginative, innovative content that we’re committed to bringing to online audiences.”

“‘The Future Starts Here’ has been the perfect medium for me to explore the topics that I’m truly passionate about and has been the cornerstone of much my career, and having it recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is hugely gratifying,” said show creator and star Tiffany Shlain. “AOL Studios has been a fantastic partner from the very beginning and has given me a tremendous amount of freedom to execute my vision on this project.”

“The Future Starts Here” explores humanity's relationship with technology, creativity and how we can shape our future and features humor and insightful commentary from Shlain, a noted filmmaker and founder of the Webby Awards. Sponsored by Verizon, the series first debuted on The AOL On Network in 2013, received over 20 million views and was recently renewed for a second season. The executive production team includes: Tiffany Shlain, Ex. Producer & Director; produced by Sawyer Steele & Arne Johnson; written by Tiffany Shlain, Sawyer Steele, Ken Goldberg & Arne Johnson; Edited by Tiffany Shlain; Co-edited by Mission Pictures; Animations by Una Lorenzen; Cinematographer, Jesse Dana. The Future Starts Here is a production of The Moxie Institute Film Studio & Lab.

The AOL On Network has launched nearly 50 original series since 2011. AOL’s 2013 slate of originals, which comprised 15 shows and featured the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Richie, and Hank Azaria, has garnered more than 167 million views to date. With VH1 set to release half-hour episodes of #CandidlyNicole this month, and with AOL On content available on 15 connected TVs and streaming devices, AOL has proven that the lines between traditional TV and digital have become increasingly blurred, and that great content can truly be found on every screen.*

The 35th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, September 30th at a ceremony at Frederick P. Rose Hall in Lincoln Center in New York City.
