New E-book Imagines What Happened Before Jesus Began His Public Ministry

PRLog - Jul. 17, 2014 - MINNEAPOLIS -- FRIENDS OF JESUS, a new e-book about the days immediately before Jesus commenced His three-year public ministry, offers a fictional and metaphysical perspective that could stir some controversy in traditional religious circles.

FRIENDS OF JESUS fantasizes a dramatic and historical moment in the birth of Christianity, according to e-book author Allen C. Liles. "Not much is known or documented about the days right before Jesus was baptized at the Jordan River  by John the Baptist," Liles stated. "FRIENDS OF JESUS imagines a possible scenario of what might have occurred. The book integrates well-known Biblical characters such as Jesus of Nazareth, Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist, Simon Peter, the Disciple John and Mary, mother of Jesus, into a dramatic and fanciful story of this key moment in religious and world history.

Liles, an ordained non-denominational minister, says that FRIENDS OF JESUS also includes some well-known "enemies". "Historical characters such as Pontius Pilate, the Jewish High Priest Caiaphas and Judas Iscariot are also depicted," Rev. Liles noted. "These are all important actors in the betrayal, persecution and crucifixion of Jesus."

The narrative for FRIENDS OF JESUS begins with Jesus' 29th birthday party and ends just before His baptism. It details the fateful decisions, religious intrigue, human betrayal, spiritual revelations and unexpected humor that may shaped the events that changed the world forever. The possibly controversial plot lines include Jesus' initial reluctance to accept God's Call and why he finally agreed to His Holy Mission, God's designation of Mary Magdalene as a more important participant than universally believed and how the imprisonment and beheading of John the Baptist by Herod Antipas was orchestrated by Herod's unstable wife Herodias and his stepdaughter Salome. It also introduces fictional characters such as Shlomo, a bumbling Nazareth rabbi and Astrid the Astrologer, who accurately foretold the coming spiritual upheaval.

"FRIENDS OF JESUS attempts to fill in the unknown gaps that preceded the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus the Christ," Rev. Liles said. "I believe it offers something radically new to the discussion of the who, what, why and how Christianity was born onto the human scene."

FRIENDS OF JESUS is available for pre-order before its August 15 release date at www.smashwords.com/books/view/455617. The first 50% of the new e-book may be downloaded now for free. It is also available through Apple IBooks.

Rev. Liles is a graduate of Baylor University in Waco, TX and the Unity School of Religious Studies at Unity Village, MO. Prior to his ordination in 1993, he served as vice-president of public relations for the 7-Eleven Stores. He is also the author of SITTING WITH GOD: MEDITATING FOR GOD'S DIVINE GUIDANCE and THE 12 PROMISES OF HEAVEN.
