Will partner with NewSci LLC to gain actionable insights from institutional data to recruit, retain and grow relationships with constituents
PRLog - Jul. 23, 2014 - TAMPA, Fla. -- NewSci LLC, a leading provider of big data and analytics to nonprofit organizations, today announced Lehigh University, one of the nation’s premier research institutions, has selected the NewSci Findability Platform™ to glean insights from internal and growing external data sources like social media.

“We are pleased to partner with Lehigh University to help them turn data into knowledge, and the knowledge into actionable insights,” said David Lawson, NewSci’s Chief Executive Officer. “Together, we will break through data silos to provide leadership a cross-institutional view not possible with traditional CRM applications and data warehouses,” added Lawson, a pioneer in the use of data and analytics by nonprofits.

Founded in 1865, Lehigh University is a premier private residential research university, ranked in the top tier of national research universities each year. With a reputation for their entrepreneurial and interdisciplinary approach to learning, more than 75,000 alumni from around the world have earned a Lehigh diploma, and nearly 97% of last year’s graduates have gone on to find career-related opportunities just six months after graduation. A beautifully wooded campus spanning 2,358 acres, it is one of the largest private campuses in the country with more than 7,000 students calling the hillside university "home."

“Like so many universities, we use applications from a wide variety of vendors. This has made it very challenging to connect internal data, and relevant external data. NewSci enables us to do this without disrupting end-users, and without taxing our IT team,” said Thomas Chaves, Associate Vice President for Advancement, Lehigh University.

“NewSci Findability Platform™ is a revolutionary way of connecting, aggregating and analyzing    multiple data sources enabling organizations to work with all of their structured and unstructured content,” said Anand Mahurkar, Co-Founder & CTO of the company. “We use industry leading IBM® Watson Foundations' technology in our platform, which in combination with our deep domain expertise, provides organizations applications they can trust and use to solve real-world problems,” added Mahurkar, who is a Member of the IBM® Worldwide Big Data Partner Advisor Council and was recently identified by IBM as a Big Data Hero.

NewSci developed its NewSci Findability Platform™ through close association with leading nonprofit organizations. The platform offers key features like predictive analysis, sentiment analysis, influence mapping, social media analytics, cross-organizational relationship management and interactive data visualizations. The platform uses IBM InfoSphere, Data Explorer and BigInsights™ infrastructure technologies as the foundation for its domain specific proprietary applications. Offered Software as a Service (SaaS), NewSci’s Findability Platform™ is hosted with SoftLayer® an IBM® Company.

Explaining the rollout plan, David Lawson said, “During the first phase of implementation the focus will be on applications within the Advancement office. Later, other departments will be brought onto the platform.” Lehigh will also have access to NewSci Labs, the company’s research and consulting division. Talking about NewSci Labs, Jay Goulart, Co-Founder & Chief Data Artist, who leads the NewSci Labs team, said, “We will work closely with the Lehigh team to find the critical signals within the data noise, signals which help create sustainable growth.”
