PRLog - Jul. 31, 2014 - NEW YORK -- MOSES, THE AUTHOR, a new play by award-winning writer Andrew R. Heinze, directed by Drama Desk Award winner Amy Wright, will have its World Premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival.
Few plays have tackled the Bible; fewer have done it in a way that is both funny and poignant. MOSES, THE AUTHOR presents this towering biblical figure as a tormented artist beset with writer's block as he struggles to finish the Bible while also struggling with family issues (a gay son, rocky marriage, distant mother) and God issues (his relationship to God seems, like his marriage, to be on the rocks). He freed his people -- can he free himself? A comedy and a love story, with scrolls.
MOSES, THE AUTHOR will play five performances (Aug 10, 13, 20, 21, 23) at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street, New York City (Fringe Venue #17).

Andrew R. Heinze (Playwright) is the award-winning author of Jews and the American Soul (Publishers’ Weekly choice: “Best Books of 2004”). In 2007, Andrew left a tenured position in academia and moved to New York City, where he began a full-time career in playwriting. Since then his plays have been produced in New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Austin, Denver, Albuquerque and elsewhere.
His full-length plays include Turtles All the Way Down, The Invention of the Living Room (winner of the Texas Non-Profit Theatres' 2014 New Play Project competition), Hamilton, and Please Lock Me Away; award-winning one-act plays include The FQ (published in Smith & Kraus's The Best Ten-Minute Plays, 2011), The Bar Mitzvah of Jesus Goldfarb, and Masha: Conditions in the Holy Land.
Andrew belongs to the Dramatists Guild of America and holds degrees from Amherst College (B.A.) and the University of California, Berkeley (M.A., Ph.D.).
Amy Wright (Director) is a renowned teacher, director, and actress. She has directed Pinter, Chekhov, Anouilh, Strindberg, Pirandello, Ionesco, Charles Mee, Tennessee Williams, Ibsen, Molnar, Guare, and Kaufman & Hart. Her artistic home is at HB Studio in Manhattan.
As an actress, Amy has appeared on Broadway in the original productions of Noises Off (Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble) and Fifth of July. Her appearances on Off-Broadway include the original production of Fifth of July, Mrs. Klein opposite Uta Hagen (Drama Desk Award nomination), and The Rimers of Eldritch.
Amy's acclaimed work in film includes appearances in The Deer Hunter, Wise Blood, Breaking Away, Stardust Memories, Inside Moves, The Accidental Tourist, Miss Firecracker, and many more.
