Si2 Names New Director of System-Level, Low Power Design

Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) announced today that Jerry Frenkil has joined the firm as Director, Low Power, to help facilitate and coordinate Si2’s Low Power Coalition in developing power modeling standards that support interoperability between customers’ solutions across the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) supply chain.

Jerry comes with a wealth of experience within the semiconductor and EDA Industry, as well as prior involvement in working with Si2 and its members as a technical advisor. Jerry co-founded Sente, which later became Sequence Design, where he was CTO and Vice President of R&D. Prior to co-founding Sente, Jerry held management positions at VLSI Technology and Mostek. He holds a BSEE from the University of Texas. Jerry has contributed to four books on Low Power Design and holds eleven patents in circuit design and design automation, with another five pending including a pending patent in power modeling.

Jerry comments, “I am excited to continue my work with Si2 in this newly expanded role. I feel that Si2’s Low Power Coalition membership is made up of the best minds in the semiconductor industry when it comes to designing low power semiconductor systems. I am fortunate to be involved in this effort that, if successful, will literally change the way system design is done.”

John Ellis, Executive Vice President of Engineering, states, “Jerry has been deeply involved in Si2’s Low Power Coalition for many years. In fact, his name is on a groundbreaking patent application that provides the basis for our Multi-Level Power Model (MLPM) suite of standards. These standards will create a design eco-system that supports both low-level, detailed power simulation and a high-level, abstracted view of system power consumption—all within one power model. To accelerate the development and adoption of the MLPM standards, Jerry is coordinating a proof-of-concept demonstration that will help the Coalition work through details of the standard.”
