The Nebraska Medical Center, Methodist Health System and Humana Announce Accountable Care Agreement for 2015

A new Accountable Care partnership is expected to drive quality health care outcomes for Medicare Advantage members in the greater Omaha area. Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) and the Nebraska Health Network, an integrated health care delivery organization co-owned by Methodist Health System, The Nebraska Medical Center and their affiliated physicians, announced the partnership will begin January 1, 2015.

The Nebraska Health Network was established in February 2010 by Methodist Health System, The Nebraska Medical Center and their affiliated physicians, resulting in the most comprehensive network of primary care providers, specialty physicians and hospitals in Nebraska. Together, the two health systems have more than 1,200 providers, over 300 primary care physicians and six acute care hospitals in the greater Omaha area.

The partnership is based on a pay-for-value system focused on promoting evidence-based, highly-integrated care, which can lead to improved medical outcomes, a better patient experience and lower costs.

“The Nebraska Health Network was created with the goal to provide affordable, quality health care to our patients,” said James Canedy, MD, President, Nebraska Health Network Board. “Since day one, we have taken steps to ensure greater accountability for clinical outcomes. All our primary care providers have completed certification or are working towards certification to be Patient-Centered Medical Homes that focus on the management of chronic health conditions and serve patients throughout Omaha. This new arrangement with Humana takes our partnership a step further to improve patient experience and further enhance the quality of care.”

The new 2015 agreement will offer a more robust level of care coordination and quality improvements. Humana and the Nebraska Health Network are working together to enhance medical records infrastructure and further collaboration on disease management and prevention, like diabetes care and treatment, breast cancer screenings, colorectal cancer screenings and high-risk medication.

“Comprised of two leading health systems in Nebraska, the Nebraska Health Network is intimately familiar with the local health market, a leader in quality care and offers our members a wide-range of hospitals and physicians,” said Matthew Moore, President of Humana’s Central North Region, which includes Nebraska. “We’re looking forward to expanding our partnership and working closely to achieve excellence in patient health management.”

Humana has a 25-year Accountable Care relationship history with more than one million members that are cared for by 33,000 primary care physicians, in more than 900 Accountable Care relationships across 40 states and Puerto Rico.
