Barnes & Noble Announces Exclusive Preview of New Angry Birds Game: Partnership with Rovio Makes Angry Birds Stella Available to Play at Stores Nationwide Before Full Launch

NOOK Media, a subsidiary of Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), together with Rovio, today announced that the highly anticipated upcoming Angry Birds Stella game will be available for fans to preview exclusively at Barnes & Noble stores from August 29 to September 3. During that time, Angry Birds fans and Barnes & Noble customers can come to any store nationwide and visit the NOOK Counter to play the game, before anyone else, on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK in-store demo devices. This exclusive opportunity lets fans experience this fall’s hottest new game on the just-launched Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK, the first full-featured Android tablet optimized for readers.

“With the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK, we highlighted our commitment to bringing the very best content and experiences to our customers. One way we are delivering on this is by inviting Angry Birds fans to Barnes & Noble stores to exclusively experience the upcoming Angry Birds Stella game on the fantastic new NOOK,” said Jonathan Shar, Vice President and General Manager of Emerging Digital Content at NOOK Media LLC. “Rovio has always been a strong partner with Barnes & Noble/NOOK and we are thrilled that we could work together to bring this exciting new game to our stores for fans to experience on our best-in-class new Samsung NOOK.”

Angry Birds Stella is the story of Stella and her friends, a fierce and feisty flock of birds that live on a never-before-seen corner of the Angry Birds universe, Golden Island. Together they explore, create, rock out and laugh… a lot! Not to forget Gale, Stella’s former best friend, who becomes the “Bad Princess” when she flies down a darker path. This is the very first Angry Birds Stella game, which marks the beginning of a whole new entertainment brand, Angry Birds Stella. Fans should get ready to take their slingshot to new heights and can play as Stella or any of her fearless friends – each with their own awesome powers.

“We’re super-excited about the upcoming launch of Angry Birds Stella and can’t imagine a better partner than Barnes & Noble to help us build excitement for the launch with an early preview on the brand new Samsung NOOK devices in their stores,” said Peter Vesterbacka, ‘Mighty Eagle’ and Brand Ambassador of Rovio. “Barnes & Noble stores have always been great places for Angry Birds fans to experience everything we have to offer including Angry Birds books, toys and more, and we encourage those fans to visit their local Barnes & Noble to check out our new game before it’s available anywhere else.”

The Angry Birds Stella game will launch on September 4 across all major platforms, including NOOK Apps. Other great Angry Birds games available on NOOK include fan favorites like Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Star Wars, Angry Birds Rio, Bad Piggies and Amazing Alex, all of which are available to experience like never before on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK. Launched just last week, this new co-branded tablet offers the best of both worlds: the first-ever full-featured Android tablet optimized for reading. The new Samsung NOOK is available in more than 660 Barnes & Noble bookstores and online at www.bn.com and www.nook.com for $179 after a $20 instant rebate, and includes more than $200 in free content from the NOOK Store®, including bestselling books, popular TV shows, top magazines and more.

For more information on the exclusive Angry Birds Stella preview and to experience and purchase the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 NOOK, customers should visit their local Barnes & Noble store and speak with a friendly, knowledgeable bookseller.
