Des Moines, Iowa. The Des Moines Derby Brats, All-Stars Team, Des Moines’ own Junior Roller Derby Team, participated in the first ever National Junior Roller Derby Championship held in Daytona Beach, Florida in August. Amongst 16 teams, representing regions around the country, the Brats emerged victorious.
The Brats All-Stars Team is comprised of 14 girls and 1 boy, ages 11-18, representing schools from all over the metro area. Relatively unknown, the Brats came into the 3-day, double elimination tournament as a low seed in the top bracket. They lost only one game throughout the tournament, and swept the national title. The team is coached by Mark Muse and Romina Muse, both known nationally and internationally in the skating world.
