Encana Corp. (NYSE: ECA) will pay a premium of approximately $5.93 billion in cash to acquire Athlon Energy Inc. (NYSE: ATHL). Shares of Athlon Energy leaped $11.55 to $58.28 while Encana stock rose 46 cents to $21.59.
