African American Group Warned Sierra Leone President of Ebola Threat in 2013

Group Launches $45 Million Campaign to Fight Epidemic.

The Black American group ThePowerof1Trillion warned Sierra Leone’s President that the lack of medical infrastructure in the country and Africa as a whole would lead to a disaster like the current Ebola epidemic. According to numerous African media outlets, Dr. Sylvia Blyden, special assistant to Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma was warned that global warming would lead to more lethal outbreaks of tropical diseases such as Ebola. The group also warned that deforestation caused by the massive corporate land grab in Africa was fueling a more virulent Ebola pandemic atmosphere. According to an ABC News report, British researchers have concluded that the Ebola virus may have been the cause of the Black Death plague that killed 1/3 of Europe’s population in the 14th century.

According to founder Jerome Almon, The Powerof1Trillion organization has amassed a list of hundreds of thousands members of the African diaspora that are prepared to aid Western Africa in its fight against Ebola. The main concentration is on purchasing vaccines and constructing modern hospitals to halt the spread of the disease in Africa, and globally. The overall plan calls for African Americans to redirect 10% of the $11 billion they donate to charity annually, to West African infrastructure (http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/23/us-usa-blacks-donors-idUSTRE81M1WI20120223). The article was based on a study by the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors group. This is part of a larger plan calling on African Americans to pragmatically invest the over $1.1 trillion they spend annually in Africa American communities, Africa industries, and entrepreneurship.

The Ebola project is has been named “1AgainstEbola” with the goal of donating $1 dollar for each African American member of the diaspora to fight the epidemic. A BBC News report from 2013 supports the organization’s contention that African Americans are the key to Africa’s revitalization, and avoiding such disasters as the current Ebola plague. According to the report the African diaspora gives twice as much to Africa as it receives in global foreign aid, and is far more effective in advancing the continents economies (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-22169474). Data indicates African Americans lag behind the rest of the global African diaspora in this area despite being the wealthiest Africans on Earth. The Powerof1Trillion organization cites the contributions of Jamaican Canadian billionaire Michael Lee Chin as the standard in supporting Africa and Africans communities in the West. The organization is scheduled to release further details of the project through their website and international interviews beginning October 6, 2014.
