Goldmind Smartwear LogoThe “Commercial Site for Honest Mechanics,” located in Goodyear, will offer quality work at honest prices.Here’s the problem: There are a lot of Mercedes Benz owners in the greater Phoenix area who are having problems getting their vehicles serviced properly. And Eugene Booker of nearby Goodyear, Ariz., is one of them.
Booker wants to address this issue in a big way. He is planning to purchase a commercial site in Goodyear and create 10 small auto repair shops for Mercedes Benz owners. He is calling the project “Commercial Site for Honest Mechanics.”
Booker is currently checking the area for prospective sites and has found several good candidates for this project. One of them has a brand new building.
“I want this to be a place where you can get your Mercedes repaired and not have to worry about whether the mechanic is being honest with you,” he said. “If it’s a $40 job, then you should pay $40. If it’s a $4,000 job, then you pay that amount. I want people to be confident that they’re being treated honestly and fairly.”
Booker initiated this project because of frustrations he’s had with his car. “I’ve owned a Mercedes for a long time,” he said. “Every mechanic I’ve dealt with has done a poor job. Either they weren’t honest or they just didn’t have the knowledge to do the job right.”
Putting together an auto repair complex like this is an expensive proposition. Booker is figuring he’ll need $1.5 million in start-up capital for a building lease, equipment and marketing. He plans to rent out the repair stalls to make venture profitable over the long haul.
In conjunction with the repair site, Booker also plans to market Goldmind Smartwear, a line of caps, T-shirts, watches and belts, so people can shop while they’re waiting for their repairs to be completed.
In order to generate this funding, he has launched an Indiegogo campaign, which can be viewed at www.indiegogo.com/projects/commercial-site-for-honest-mechanics. Booker is hoping to receive contributions from Mercedes Benz owners and dealerships as well as interested auto mechanics. Donations and any amount are welcome.
He is in the process of recruiting qualified auto mechanics from colleges that run auto repair training programs. His search is focusing on students and women who want to break into the profession.
