KBE Building Corp.’s yearlong founding sponsorship of an initiative to promote manufacturing and innovation in Connecticut will culminate in an Oct. 21 premiere party and an Oct. 23 TV premiere of a groundbreaking original documentary by the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN).
KBE served as Founding Sponsor for CPBN’s yearlong, multi-platform Made in Connecticut initiative, which celebrates the state’s manufacturing future, from high-tech to hand-made.
As part of the sponsorship, KBE supplied the seed money for CPBN to hire Emmy-winning journalist Christina DeFranco to produce and host a documentary featuring 12 Connecticut-based companies that exemplify the success and diversity of manufacturing today.
“When CPBN approached us about Made in Connecticut, we knew this was the perfect way to cement our focus on promoting technical education and careers across the state,” said Mike Kolakowski, KBE’s president and principal owner, who bought the firm in 2007.
The Premiere Party for the documentary launch will be held on Oct. 21 at the Pratt & Whitney Hangar Museum, with a cocktail reception and sneak preview. Available for no charge, with a suggested donation of $50, tickets can be reserved online here or by calling (860) 275-7550.
The full documentary airs Thurs., Oct. 23 at 8 p.m. on CPTV. Additional related programming will air on CPTV and WNPR/Connecticut Public Radio, CPBN’s NPR affiliate.

At a June 9 ceremony held at E.C. Goodwin Technical High School, one of eight technical high schools the firm has built or renovated since 2002, KBE awarded $17,000 in scholarships to 34 graduating seniors within the state’s growing technical high school system.
KBE also supports continuing technical education by participating in the ACE Mentor Program; for the past decade, KBE employees have helped mentor students pursuing degrees and/or careers in architecture, construction, and engineering.
Both the technical high school scholarships and the CPBN sponsorship are part of KBE’s corporate philanthropic program, 50 Ways to Make a Difference. Established in 2009 to celebrate the firm’s new ownership, name change, and 50 years in business, 50 Ways has helped KBE associates donate more than $1.2 million and 5,000 volunteer hours to charitable causes benefiting military veterans, children, seniors, and now technical high school students.
