Mike Kravinsky, writer/director of Geographically Desirable, worked for ABC News in Washington for 29 years before ultimately deciding his future laid in slates not scoops.
The result of Kravinsky’s journey into filmmaking can be seen when Geographically Desirable plays at this month’s Reel Independent Film Extravaganza in DC.
This is home turf for Kravinsky, who’ll attend the premiere with his cast, led by leading lady Blair Bowers.
In the film, Bowers plays an overworked sleep deprived TV News woman, Nicole, whose life is derailed when she inherits a house in a small quirky town.
Early reviews have pegged Geographically Desirable “instantly warm”* and “a wonderful comedy”*, with much praise pointing towards how realistic the film plays. Kravinsky believes it turned out that way because he’s writing about a world he’s very familiar with.
“Write what you know”, Kravinsky said in a recent interview. “[This] is my experience working in TV news…with this added component of the rom-com. That’s basically the genesis for the idea, moments I had experienced in my years in news, wrapped around a fictional story.”
