New York, NY, USA (October 9, 2014) — A little more than a year ago American author Randy Jernigan hit the scales at 355 pounds, suffered from hypertension and a severe case of type 2 diabetes, and could barely walk without extreme gout pain.

After a frightening emergency room experience, Jernigan decided that it was time to make some changes. “I promised God that if he would let me walk out of that hospital alive I would make good on the rest of the life I had been given. I went on a diet straight away. I also started an exercise routine that I could live with–mostly walking. But the most important thing I did was change the way I thought about food and eating.”

Today Jernigan is 162 pounds lighter, has beaten most of his health issues, and has reissued the best selling cookbook he authored wherein he shares the very personal story of his weight-loss journey. “Losing To Win! “I used to live to eat,” explains Jernigan, a freelance writer, in a telephone interview from his Utah home. “…now I eat to live. In order for me to be successful in making these changes, I had to retrain my brain. I had to put food in its proper place. Food could no longer be the center of my life. Nor would I allow myself to hide behind food anymore.”

In his book’s “My Story” chapter, Jernigan writes that he covered up a lot of very painful childhood issues by hiding in his bedroom and eating until he fell asleep. According to Jernigan that was the start of his up and down cycle of unhealthy eating habits that would nearly take his life in later years.

“The foods you’ll find in this book are pretty simple. I believe the simpler the better. And, for the most part, I try and eat whole foods throughout the day,” says Jernigan of his new diet plan. “I keep apples and oranges and other fresh fruit and veggies with me during the day. I’ve grown to love them and can’t go a day without them.”

While the new book is only 118 pages long, the publication has had a major impact on peoples lives, says a publishing associate of Jernigan’s. “Randy had always been very active on Facebook and other social media, telling his story and sharing his recipes. His Facebook following grew to be thousands of friends and supporters. By the time the book was available for purchase we had more than 200,000 requests for the book and Randy’s story. Literally thousands of emails sharing how his recipes, tips and story had changed their lives came in.”

According to the publisher Jernigan has three more diet cookbooks in the works and a documentary by the same title about to be broadcast on British and American television.

A well know celebrity biographer and writer, Jernigan’s literary agency recently announced that he’s sold a screenplay to a Hollywood studio and will be releasing a new book of celebrity biographies this year.
