UnitedHealthcare Introduces New Medicare Advantage Plan for Beneficiaries in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky

UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) company, today introduced a new Medicare Advantage plan for beneficiaries in the Cincinnati area and Northern Kentucky. St. Elizabeth Healthcare and TriHealth will be the preferred care providers for beneficiaries who enroll in the new plan.

The more than 315,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties in Kentucky as well as Butler, Clermont, Hamilton and Warren counties in Ohio can enroll in the AARP MedicareComplete Focus (HMO) Medicare Advantage plan during the Open Enrollment Period (Oct. 15-Dec. 7).i

The plan is designed to help people save money and enhance their health and well-being through additional benefits and health care services beyond those available with Original Medicare.

The AARP MedicareComplete Focus plan has a $0 monthly premium beyond the Part B premium, and includes coverage of prescription drugs, a SilverSneakers fitness membership and UnitedHealthcare’s Passport program, which gives consumers access to their benefits when they travel outside of the plan’s service area.

The plan covers hearing aids, routine dental, vision and hearing care as well as an annual physical – above and beyond the annual wellness visit available through Original Medicare – to encourage people to build relationships with their primary care physician and get recommended screenings and preventive care services.

To supplement the care from their primary care physician, members can receive a physical exam and comprehensive review of their health status in the comfort of their home through UnitedHealthcare’s HouseCalls program. Beneficiaries also have access to health care professionals 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through the NurseLine for support with urgent health issues or concerns that can’t wait for the next available doctor’s appointment.

AARP MedicareComplete Focus members can access care from St. Elizabeth’s and TriHealth’s expansive network in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky, including eight hospitals, 360 primary care physicians and nearly 1,100 specialists.*

“Medicare beneficiaries in the Cincinnati area will find quality coverage at an exceptional value in our new Medicare Advantage plan, which is designed not just to help them get well when they’re sick but also to help them stay healthy and vibrant so they can enjoy their retirement,” said Elena McFann, Central region president of UnitedHealthcare. “We look forward to collaborating with St. Elizabeth and TriHealth in the years ahead as we pursue our shared goal of enhancing the health and well-being of seniors and other beneficiaries in the region.”

The new Medicare Advantage plan resulted from the long-standing relationship between UnitedHealthcare, St. Elizabeth and TriHealth as well as the establishment of Healthcare Solutions Network last year.

In December 2013, St. Elizabeth and TriHealth announced their intention to establish Healthcare Solutions Network, a collaborative venture designed to enable the two organizations to more quickly achieve the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s “Triple Aim” goals of better health, better patient experience and lower costs.

Healthcare Solutions Network is a unique regional health organization that brings together the physicians and hospitals of St. Elizabeth and TriHealth into a clinically integrated network that aims to deliver high-quality, individually tailored and coordinated care to patients in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

The introduction of the AARP MedicareComplete Focus plan is the latest demonstration of UnitedHealthcare’s commitment to collaboration with the doctors in its local networks to enable enhanced care coordination and improved health outcomes for members.

UnitedHealthcare, St. Elizabeth and TriHealth intend to deepen their collaboration in the years ahead to increase the care providers’ participation in UnitedHealthcare’s primary care incentive and shared savings programs, with the goal of enabling more UnitedHealthcare Medicare members to experience the benefits of these patient-centered programs: better health outcomes, an improved member experience and lower costs.

St. Elizabeth and TriHealth are also in the care provider network for people enrolled in AARP MedicareComplete Plan 2 (HMO), AARP MedicareComplete Essential (HMO) and UnitedHealthcare Dual Complete (HMO), which UnitedHealthcare will continue to offer in 2015.

Serving nearly one in five Medicare beneficiaries, UnitedHealthcare is the largest provider of Medicare Advantage, Medicare supplement and Part D prescription drug plans nationally.* UnitedHealthcare serves more than 2.1 million people in Ohio and Kentucky, including more than 530,000 Medicare beneficiaries.*
