Barnes & Noble Announces Free November Storytime Lineup

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced its November lineup of free Storytime events for children and families, all designed to celebrate the joy of reading, creativity and fun.

The month kicks off with the Paddington Storytime on Saturday, November 8, at 11 a.m., celebrating Michael Bond’s classic and beloved character, Paddington Bear. Starring in countless books and TV episodes, Paddington Bear is coming to the big screen for the first time in a magical adventure film, Paddington, on January 16, 2015. Academy-Award winning actress Nicole Kidman is starring as Millicent in the much-anticipated Paddington movie, alongside a star-studded cast including Ben Whishaw, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Hugh Bonneville and Jim Broadbent. To kick-start the Paddington Storytime events the week of the national Storytime, Nicole Kidman will host a Storytime at the Barnes & Noble store in Brentwood, TN, near her hometown of Nashville, on Thursday, November 6, at 4 p.m.

During the Storytime event, Nicole Kidman will read Paddington from a new, exclusive Barnes & Noble edition of the story. In this exclusive edition, Paddington and Paddington’s scrapbook are together in one special book, published by HarperCollins Children’s Books. Filled with little-known facts, travel souvenirs, photos, and letters, Paddington’s scrapbook gives readers a more in-depth look at Paddington’s early life and his most special moments to remember.

On Christmas Eve in 1956, Michael Bond, the beloved author of the Paddington Bear books discovered a lone teddy bear on a shelf in a London store near Paddington Station. He bought the bear as a present for his wife, and the bear became the inspiration for a children's classic story that has delighted tens of millions of youngsters in at least 30 languages. To celebrate this classic character, Barnes & Noble is offering an exclusive edition of the Paddington book that includes Paddington’s Scrapbook.

Additionally, while supplies last,each participant attending the event at their local store will receive a free* Paddington movie ticket powered by Fandango® to see Paddington at participating theaters (*up to an $8 total value), while supplies last. The movie ticket can be used anytime starting January 16, 2015, through March 31, 2015. Additional terms and conditions apply. Elf on the Shelf Storytime & Elf Adoption Event – Between November 1 – December 20, all Barnes & Noble stores will host a Storytime event featuring The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition. Participants will also enjoy a reading of the NOOK Book® version of the story. Have you ever wondered how Santa knows who is naughty and who is nice? The Elf on the Shelf helps Santa know. This interactive holiday hide-and-seek tradition is perfect for children and families of all ages. Stores will also host Elf adoption events to pair customers with their very own Elf. Customers can name their Elf, complete an adoption certificate and register their adoption online.

At these events, customers can also discover the new Elf Pets: A Reindeer Tradition. Just in time for Christmas, this new story allows children to bring home a little extra magic by adopting a new reindeer friend. Already a best friend to the scout elves, this snuggly reindeer is sure to be a hit with children and families. Each reindeer pet wears a heart charm around its neck that fills with Christmas magic each time a child hugs, talks, or plays with it. On Christmas Eve that full heart helps Santa’s sleigh fly. Thanksgiving Storytime – On Saturday, November 15, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores will help children celebrate their love of Thanksgiving with a fabulous new title,The Great Thanksgiving Escape by Mark Fearing. The tale will also be enjoyed on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab® 4 NOOK®. The book provides a hilarious, kid-friendly look at Thanksgiving — full of family, food and lots of fun. Other Thanksgiving stories may also be read. Activities and discussions about what children are thankful for will round out the fun.

Love Monster & The Perfect Present Storytime – On Tuesday, November 18, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores will feature author Rachel Bright’s adorable story about a cute, furry creature trying to find the perfect present for the monster he thinks “is the most perfect monster in the world.” This story about friendship and the fact that a gift does not have to cost the earth to mean the world is sure to become a new holiday favorite. Participants will also enjoy crafts and activities.

Cuentacuentos: Storytime en Español – During November, select Barnes & Noble stores invite children and their parents to experience a reading of the Spanish-language picture book,Oso Quiere Contar Una Historia by Erin Stead. Bear has a story to tell but all the animals are getting ready for winter. This delightful picture book from the author-illustrator team that brought readers the award-winning A Sick Day for Amos McGee is a wonderful way to teach children what different animals do during winter. Activities and word practice will also be a part of the event.

During all the Barnes & Noble Storytime events, customers are encouraged to take photographs and share them on their social media venues using the hashtag #bndiscovery. Additionally, the Barnes & Noble Café will offer Storytime attendees a Tall Hot Chocolate or Peppermint Hot Chocolate for only $1.
