Avnet’s Brian Chan Recognized as a 2015 Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader

Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a leading global technology distributor, announced that Brian Chan, vice president of IT for Avnet, Inc., was selected by IDG's Computerworldas a 2015 Premier 100 IT Leader. This year’s Premier 100 spotlights 100 leaders from both the technology and business sides of companies for their exceptional technology leadership and innovative approaches to business challenges.

“I’ve always been impressed with Brian’s ability to apply technology to directly solve business problems,” said Steve Phillips, senior vice president and CIO, Avnet, Inc. “This was immediately apparent when Brian first joined Avnet, and he quickly laid an IT foundation that would scale with our Asia Pacific team during a time of rapid growth. He also expertly led the IT integration of five acquisitions that significantly expanded Avnet’s Asia Pacific presence. This prestigious award highlights the valuable role that Brian continues to play every day in helping Avnet achieve its business goals.”

In 2012, Chan relocated to the U.S., where he now has responsibility for Avnet’s global IT shared services organization. In this role, Chan and his team have continued their business-centric approach to IT. As part of this, they recently redesigned Avnet’s data analytics platform. By taking advantage of emerging big data technologies, Chan and his team developed this new platform by harnessing the power of in-memory computing, along with a set of modernized analytics tools. With the new data analytics capabilities, Avnet has visibility into key metrics to better assess its performance toward profitably growing its business.

“The Premier 100 awards program showcases the innovative work of a dedicated group of IT leaders who are using technology to solve business problems in their organizations,” said Scot Finnie, editor-in-chief of Computerworld. “Every day, these tech-savvy professionals are positioning their organizations for success by mapping IT projects to strategic business initiatives. They also ensure that their departments are set up to quickly enable new ideas, and they balance the need for free and open access to information with concerns about security and compliance. These 100 men and women are using their vast experience in managing people and projects to stay a step ahead. We're pleased to recognize their leadership and honor their achievements.”

Chan is one of four Avnet IT leaders that have received this lifetime recognition. Phillips became a member of the Premier 100 in 2011, when he was honored for his ability to develop innovative IT strategies to drive growth opportunities. Avnet’s vice president of enterprise infrastructure, Brad Kenney, was named to this list in 2013 for his commitment to increasing the efficiency of Avnet’s North American data center, and managing the company’s rapid data growth. Additionally, Avnet’s senior vice president of IT, Ger Purcell, was recognized in 2014 for his dedication to operational efficiency, especially as the company expanded its global scale and scope.

Chan will receive his award at the Premier 100 awards ceremony which will be one of the highlights of the AGENDA15 Conference held March 30 - April 1, 2015, at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort, Amelia Island, Fla. The conference, to be attended by more than 300 influential business and senior IT executives, will focus on transforming business for the digital world. About the Premier 100

The Premier 100 program was created in 2000 to spotlight individuals who have had a positive impact on their organizations through technology. These are individuals who manage internal IT organizations, mentor and motivate their IT teams and business colleagues, create a positive work environment, envision innovative solutions to business challenges and effectively manage and execute IT strategies. Each year, nominees are invited to complete a questionnaire that addresses a number of topics, including their background and experience and their attitude toward risk and innovation. Using Computerworld’s IT Leader Index, which is a measurement of how closely an individual matches our definition of the IT Leader, Computerworld analyzes the data. Each year, 100 honorees are selected to receive this life-time recognition award. Information on previous honorees can be viewed at: www.computerworld.com/s/article/9065479/Premier_100_IT_Leaders
