French designer and maker Jean Jerome has produced one of the most striking watch designs in years. Based on the Microdrive, a one inch micro Hard Disk Drive (HDD), the HDDWatch utilizes the mirror finish of the drive as the clock face. Encased in a lustrous chrome Stainless Steel body, the watch also includes some of the mechanical features of the HDD including actuator arm, but there are added arms to the platter which indicate time. In addition to the sleek and stylish watch body, the straps are designed to look like printed circuit boards, adding to the retro-geek chic look.
Jean Jerome is a celebrated watch designer who has already produced some unique and popular designs including a handless watch and the replica of the Jewish Clock in Prague. His latest HDDWatch — manufactured in France — is a triumph of design that will appeal to tech professionals, as well as anyone who enjoys simple but elegant design. Currently, the HDDWatch is available for left and right wrist watch wearers. Jean is also working on a portrait design that is wrist interchangeable. He is also designing a mechanical motion prototype which may be available soon.
Jean has already completed the initial design and manufactured an initial ten watches. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from designers and consumers, Jean is eager to enter into mass production with the HDDWatch, but he requires €3,500 to produce an initial batch of 500. Jean Jerome has sponsored a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to allow his supporters to participate in this exciting project and obtain a HDDWatch before the general public. The early bird price of the watches will be €100 instead of the retail price of €150. Backers may also obtain perks like watch straps and print books.
