NTT Communications Builds on its Leadership as the Top Wholesale IP Provider in Asia

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP services arm of Fortune Global 500 telecom leader NTT (NYSE: NTT), today announced its participation as a Platinum Sponsor of the Capacity Asia 2014 Conference taking place in Bangkok, Thailand, November 18-20. Capacity Asia is one of the leading events for the wholesale IP service industry in the region.

Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America, will join industry leaders on the keynote panel “Friend or Foe? Assessing the Future of Content in the Asia-Pacific Market and the Role of Carriers and OTT Services in a New Connected World” on Tuesday November 18th at 10:20 a.m. local time. The discussion will focus on content development and distribution and how network operators can best drive value from content services while enhancing the end user experience.

“The relationship between OTT players and carriers in Asia, as throughout the world, can be mutually beneficial. As the leading wholesale IP provider in Asia, NTT Com has the scale and resources to offer content providers and other Internet-centric businesses the capacity and geographic footprint their customers require,” said Wheeler. “With a global IP backbone ranked as one of the world’s largest and most reliable, NTT Com is uniquely positioned to address the market needs and challenges in the region.”

NTT Com remains the top Wholesale IP Provider in Asia, according to data from Dyn IP Transit Intelligence (formerly Renesys). NTT Com was recently named Best Global Wholesale Carrier at the Capacity Global Carrier Awards 2014 for its continued global infrastructure investments and the expansion of its industry-leading Tier-1 backbone.

In the last few months NTT Com has taken significant steps to continue developing its Global IP Network in the region. In July 2014 NTT Com established a new point-of-presence (PoP) in Bangkok, Thailand, in addition to its two existing PoPs in Jakarta, Indonesia, opened last year and a state-of-the-art data center in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

NTT Com also announced multiple upgrades to its submarine network within and between Asia and other continents. The company deployed 100G Ethernet technologies on its PC-1 subsea cable system (a 21,000km network linking Japan with the US) and is now rolling out the technology on its Asia Submarine- Cable Express (ASE) cable. NTT Com is planning an extension of ASE to Cambodia, to provide reliable, high-capacity infrastructure for the increasing number of multinational companies operating in the Mekong region.

NTT Com is a Platinum Sponsor of Capacity Asia 2014. NTT Com is also sponsoring the Day One Evening Reception, offering all attendees the opportunity to network with their colleagues in an informal environment, and will have an exhibition table in the refreshment area.
