Humana Partners with Bill Pay at CVS/pharmacy to Provide Convenient, In-Store Health Insurance Payment Option

Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation’s leading health and well-being companies, and CVS/pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Health (NYSE: CVS), announced today that Humana members with individual, non-Medicare plans purchased from exchanges or humana.com are now able to pay their health insurance premiums in cash, credit or debit via Bill Pay at CVS/pharmacy, a new bill payment platform launched in partnership between CVS/pharmacy and InComm earlier this year. Bill Pay at CVS/pharmacy will help newly-insured people to maintain their health insurance by providing an easy, convenient and fee-free method of paying their monthly insurance bill.

Humana is the first health company to join Bill Pay at CVS/pharmacy, allowing Humana members to make health insurance payments at any of CVS/pharmacy's U.S. retail locations in approved states, at no additional cost to them. Plan members can bring their barcoded health insurance premium bills to any participating CVS/pharmacy and make a payment. CVS will simply scan the barcode and collect the member’s desired payment, which will be securely transferred to Humana. Payments can be made using cash, credit card or debit card at cash registers in the pharmacy or at front checkout.

“Providing access to innovative ways to manage health insurance premiums is an example of how we are reinventing pharmacy for better health," said Josh Flum, Senior Vice President of Retail Pharmacy at CVS Health. “We’re pleased to expand upon our existing partnership with Humana to educate people about their health coverage options by taking this step in providing even more of our customers with the quick and easy option of making their health insurance payments in our stores.”

“Humana is proud to partner with CVS/pharmacy as part of our ongoing commitment to helping people manage their health in new ways by providing simple and accessible health experiences,” said Bruce Broussard, President and CEO at Humana. “Our partnership with CVS/pharmacy reflects our focus on bringing simplicity to today’s complex health care environment, which includes providing people with convenient access to their health information and the appropriate education to make informed decisions.”

Bill Pay at CVS/pharmacy provides an innovative payment option for all types of consumers to regularly cover their monthly health insurance premiums. This is a core goal of health reform, and Bill Pay is a way that we can make the experience simpler, at no cost to the plan member,” said David Vielehr, Vice President/GM, InComm Healthcare and Affinity.

Bill Pay is powered by InComm Healthcare and Affinity’s Cashtie and Enhanced Payment Platform, which combines open- and closed-loop transaction networks with a Universal Product Code (UPC) level rules-based engine. The rules-based payment platform provides a single point of integration for third-party restricted-spend programs. For retailers, the platform can support multiple sponsors, payment types and payers for each program, significantly expanding the scope of the member benefit, including opportunities for private, white label products. For brands, it creates a new level of integration into the retail experience. For more information, click here.

Humana and CVS/pharmacy also have an existing multi-year retail partnership announced last year that is designed to educate individuals and their families about their health coverage options under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Through this partnership, Humana representatives will once again answer questions people may have about their health coverage options by conducting informational events at more than 285 CVS/pharmacy stores throughout the 2015 Open Enrollment Period where Humana is offering individual qualified health plans through Federal and state individual market public exchanges.

Humana representatives also will be participating in CVS/pharmacy’s health and wellness campaign, Project Health, again this year to answer questions about health coverage under the Affordable Care Act in various markets including Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas.
