NTT Communications Expands Global IP Network with Markley Group in Boston

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the global data and IP services arm of telecom leader NTT (NYSE:NTT), announced the expansion of its Tier-1 Global IP Network today with a new Point of Presence (PoP) in Boston at the Markley Group’s One Summer Street location, New England’s largest and longest operating multi-tenant telecommunications and data center facility.

This expansion will enable NTT Com to further scale its offerings to Internet service providers (ISPs), content-oriented companies, hosting and CDN providers in this highly strategic market. In turn, the Markley Group customers will benefit from a direct link to NTT Com’s award-winning Global IP Network and increased global connectivity options available in this location.

Commonly referred to by its address, One Summer Street, the Markley co-location center is a carrier-neutral facility with a 100% uptime record. With connectivity to over 80 domestic and international network providers and utility feeds from a Network Grid System comprised of eight substations for uninterrupted, reliable power, One Summer Street houses critical computer operations for leading financial, healthcare, academic, entertainment and technology firms and institutions.

“We are thrilled to extend our footprint with Markley in the New England region to serve a broader community of Internet-centric businesses and organizations,” said Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America. “We chose Markley because One Summer Street provides a centralized location, exceptional performance and reliability that are an excellent match to NTT Com’s fully redundant Tier-1 IP backbone,” Wheeler added.

“One Summer Street is a world-class facility with cutting-edge infrastructure that offers NTT Com the opportunity to expand its presence with the industry-leading reliability and performance its customers expect,” said Patrick Gilmore, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Markley Group. “We are excited that NTT Com chose Markley as a PoP for its Global IP Network as our customers will also benefit from increased global connectivity options.”

Markley’s facility is a 920,000-square-foot world-class data center offering 2N redundancies with thirty Operating Engineers supporting the facility 24 X 7 in a location that is considered the intersection of all major fiber routes in New England.
