Intelligent Technical Solutions of Las Vegas Warns of Windows 2003 Server Support Change

Las Vegas, United States - November 24, 2014 /PressCable/

Microsoft recently announced the plan to cease supporting a critical business software platform, Server 2003.  The threat is severe enough the US Government also put out a security warning, a rare act in the computing world, generally used in the most severe cases.  According to Intelligent Founder and CEO, Tom Andrulis, “We see few warnings be severe enough to get a governmental warning, which should give companies an idea this is not something to take lightly.  The concern is when support ends, the systems will become vulnerable to attack and potentially cost businesses their data.  Numerous studies show most businesses will fail when their data is lost.”

Following this date, July 14 2015, Microsoft is ceasing support for the Windows Server 2003. The product will not receive:

A) Security updates to ensure PC protection from malicious viruses, spyware, and other harmful applications

B) Technical support assistance from Microsoft or updates related to the software or its contents

Details

All software applications come with a product life-cycle, and this one has culminated. As a result, Microsoft will cease to develop and offer updates, technical assistance or repairs concerning the application.  This has impact on approx 11 million users who currently have Server 2003 as their server’s operating system.

Significance

PCs running obsolete applications are more vulnerable to the risk of cyber security attacks, harmful virus intrusions or data loss. Consumers may also have to face issues pertaining to software and hardware synchronization as new software and hardware are not necessarily being developed for compatibility with Windows Server 2003.

Moreover, firms under contractual obligations may find it difficult to fulfill requirements of servicing servers with Windows Server 2003.

Impact

PCs using the Windows Server 2003 OS will keep working when support ends. But, running unsupported applications may make it prone to virus intrusions and other security attacks. It may even result in breaches in confidentiality, integrity, and/or data system resources and assets.

More detail is available on the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) website. To help make this transition, ITS is offering a limited time consulting offer.  According to Andrulis, “We are offering a free 2 hour consultation service to help local businesses understand their risk as it pertains to this announcement.  We can show the benefits of using a supported operating system or shift to a cloud-based SaaS (software as a service) / IaaS (infrastructure as a service).”

Technical assistance is available as well to facilitate this migration.
