Arab Health launches new conference to gather regional and international experts amid growing concerns and death rates
PRLog - Nov. 25, 2014 - DUBAI, UAE -- Research has highlighted that more than 37% of people in the UAE and 26% in KSA are suffering from hypertension, known as ‘the silent killer’ due to its rare display of symptoms. In addition, currently more than 40% of Emirati adults aged between 35 to 70 years have hypertension[1], which left untreated can lead to ischemic heart disease and stroke, the leading causes of death and disability in the Middle East and North Africa[2].

Affordability of medication, compliance with treatment and the barriers of lifestyle changes are key concerns for the region, and to help address these, the Arab Health Congress has introduced a new conference endorsed by the European Hypertension Society. The conference, entitled 1st Gulf Hypertension Conference, aims to provide the most up-to-date clinical and scientific data to tackle the disease with greater awareness and early and will bring together more than 30 world renowned experts to discuss current and future challenges and solutions in hypertension in the Middle East.

Simon Page, Managing Director, Informa Life Sciences Exhibition, said: “We decided to introduce the conference to the Arab Health Congress 2015 in order to elaborate on the extent of the disease and its impact in the region. It will provide physicians as well as regional health agencies with recent advancements in the field as well as improve hypertension management, ultimately reflecting in the delivery of better patient care and outcomes.”

The conference will examine the cardiovascular risk factors in hypertensive patients and the treatments of hypertension in certain populations, and analyze clinical case studies. The speakers will also discuss advances in hypertension treatment methods, such as different medications and therapies.

Dr Jafar Al-Said, Bahrain Specialist Hospital and Chair of the 1st Gulf Hypertension Conference, said: “Cardiovascular diseases cause 45% of early deaths in the Gulf region alone[3] and with the disease rarely showing any symptoms, the importance of screening and early detection is paramount. The prevalence of hypertension globally according to World Health Organisation is extremely high with one in three people affected; however, recent studies have shown that the prevalence in the Gulf is far worse.”

More than 11,000 medical professionals are expected to attend the 2015 edition of the Arab Health Congress which is the world’s largest multi-track medical congress offering 18 medical conferences.

Arab Health Exhibition & Congress is organised by Informa Life sciences Exhibitions and will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center from 26-29 January 2015.
