Artist Turned "Entrepreneurialist" Offers Visualization Of The Startup Mindset In Illustrated Book Debut

PRLog - Jan. 7, 2015 - NEW YORK -- D. BERNARD WEBSTER, a prolific entrepreneurship educator and trainer to more than 10,000 startups in NY/NJ, announced his imaginative book debut entitled, “STEP FORWARD: An Illustrated Guide for Advancing Your Entrepreneurial Mindset.” Featuring more than 150 pages of original illustrations and graphic spreads, STEP FORWARD visualizes the evolution of a startup entrepreneur’s mindset as he/she advances through every stage of the business life cycle.

Eight out of 10 entrepreneurs experience business failure within the first year of operation, but Webster believes adopting the right mindset to be a critical component of making entrepreneurship sustainable. “A simple re-calibration of the way many of us think about and approach challenges—pertaining to money, market conditions, or even the product or service itself—can unleash an entrepreneur’s innate creativity to discover and produce solutions. This process not only empowers the entrepreneur to advance their enterprise from one stage to the next, but also deepens the reservoir of experience from which future innovations may spring.”

Webster’s STEP FORWARD therefore takes a decidedly different approach when tackling the challenge of inspiring entrepreneurs to better practices.  As a former professional artist, Webster designed STEP FORWARD  fit the way he believes entrepreneurs think—visually and dynamically. “I wanted to give the reader meaningful cues relating to the insights, ideas, and circumstances which impact entrepreneurial decision-making at every level,” Webster shares. “Being true to myself I didn’t want to do inundate readers with complicated business terminology or impressive sounding jargon that ultimately may be too abstract for the reader. STEP FORWARD is definitely a creative departure from traditional business books, in that it’s less about the written text and more about visualizing the business context in which innovation and best practices actually happen.”

Working with talented book designer Marissa Rondinone, Webster conceived “STEP FORWARD’s illustrated sequences to highlight key stages of the business launch and planning process, including “Disrupting an Employee Mindset”, “Saying Yes to Entrepreneurship”, “Managing for Innovation” to “Financial Planning for (Company) Exit.” Paired with straight forward commentary, STEP FORWARD illustrations encourage readers to be more absorbed in the function of leading the business, reflecting critically on their own thought patterns, rather than allowing the business to lead them.

When asked what impact he’d like STEP FORWARD to have on readers Webster, a self-proclaimed “Entrepreneurialist” (entrepreneurship evangelist) shares, “My hope is to inspire a more entrepreneurial world.” Entrepreneurs are the problem-solvers and idea-makers—who are acutely aware of how things work, and have tremendous foresight to identify problems not yet widely perceived. We need this kind of mindset—this attitude—to permeate through every facet of the market; from education to politics and anything in between. STEP FORWARD’s bold vision, is that anyone can change the way they think, and in so doing, can be empowered to make the kinds of creative contributions the market not only wants but desperately needs.”

STEP FORWARD is available for pre-order at www.stepforwardbusiness.com and will be released on Amazon.com January 19th 2015. D. Bernard Webster will also kick-off his first book signing event Wednesday February 18th 2015, at the New York Institute of Technology’s Manhattan Campus where he is the Entrepreneur-in-Residence.
