PRLog - Jan. 27, 2015 - NEW YORK -- A new special education platform called TeachMate365 launched today following the announcement by its creators, SpecialNeedsWare, that they had secured $3M in Series A funding.

The launch culminates over two years of collaborative work between the special education startup and Boston Children’s Hospital; Harvard Medical School’s world-renowned pediatric institute.

Dr. Shane, who heads the Autism Language Program and the Center for Communication Disorders at Boston Children’s Hospital, first came across the innovative technology of a company called SpecialNeedsWare back in 2012 at an assistive technology conference. At the time Dr. Shane and his team were in the process of publishing a report on the Visual Immersion System, a groundbreaking language methodology that taps into the strong visual processing skills of children on the spectrum, while SpecialNeedsWare was launching its first technology platform called “AutisMate,” based on the premise of visual learning for individuals with special needs.

Inspired by his brother with autism, SpecialNeedsWare founder and CEO, Jonathan Izak, was determined to support those with special needs facing communication, life skill and learning challenges by creating software that capitalized on those individuals’ strong visual learning capabilities and their affinity for technology.

When Dr. Shane and Jon were introduced at the conference, the two immediately recognized their aligned vision and the immense potential the combination of their respective methodology and technology held. A partnership was established and SpecialNeedsWare, in collaboration with Dr. Shane and Boston Children’s Hospital, set out to integrate the VIS methodology into SpecialNeedsWare’s technology.

After nearly two years of research and development, SpecialNeedsWare announced the release of TeachMate365 – a unified education platform for schools and institutions serving students with special needs.

“TeachMate365 is an extraordinary educational platform,” says Dr. Howard Shane. “By providing access to curriculum in a way our students can comprehend and retain, educators are able to bridge the gap of learning, increase student engagement and produce an overwhelmingly positive impact on their classrooms and district success.”

A revolutionary all-in-one platform, TeachMate365 enables educators to provide differentiated and personalized instruction for their diverse student population using a comprehensive set of research-based tools to successfully build academic and life skills. The cloud-based platform enables educators, therapists and parents to collaborate and share lessons and ideas across a school district or within their community. Student profiles, lessons and visual support aids can sync across multiple mobile devices so that everyone working with a student is connected and learning is continuous in every environment.

“Technology has the ability to change peoples’ lives in profound ways and is opening a door of new possibilities for individuals with special needs,“ says Jonathan Izak. “We’re thrilled to be at the forefront of this revolution and create technology that is improving student achievement and empowering educators to help their students to reach their full potential.”

TeachMate365 will be officially unveiled at the Assistive Technology Industry Association Conference in Orlando, FL on January 28, 2015.
