Mercycampaign.org, a non-profit philanthropic organization headed by eminent filmmakers, lawyers and activists, recently sent a mass petition to Indonesian President for the lives of two Austalian nationals convicted of drug trafficking. Australia based philanthropic non-profit organization, Mercycampaign.org, recently became active with the news of two Aussie drug peddlers sentenced to death hitting the Australian shores. On behalf of the non-profit, a mass petition has been sent to the office of the President of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo. The non-profit organization has unmistakably admitted that the two convicts of drug trafficking, Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, have committed serious crime and must be sent behind the bars for lifetime. However, the humanitarian organization has also pleaded to the Indonesian President, begging for the lives of those two Australian nationals.
International drug trafficking has been a major headache of the law enforcement officials who are responsible for watching over the international flights from Australia to South East Asia. According to the top intelligence officials of both countries, this corridor is frequently used by drug traffickers to take illegal drugs from Australia to Asia. Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, the Aussie young men who were accused of being the heads of a drug trafficking ring, were arrested by Indonesian police in 2005 and were sent to the death row by a Indonisean Law. Mercycampaign.org, a group of humanitarian lawyers, doctors, filmmakers, students, teachers and activists, has now launched a massive campaign to save the lives of the Aussie nationals sentenced to death.

Mercycampaign.org has joined hands with Amnesty International and Reprieve.org.uk to sound out their concerns. The non-profit organization is now offering multiple options for the benevolent people all across the world to get involved in their campaign. Interested ones can now sign the mass petition or write their own message and send it to Mercy Campaign official mail ID, or spread the word across the social media channels they use. The non-profit has also plans to launch massive protest march all across Australia. People can also donate funds to Amnesty International Australia.
Julian McMahon, legal representative for Myuran and Andrew, was recently quoted in Mercycampaign.org official website. “Since the duo was arrested in 2005, they have rehabilitated and realized the nature and gravity of their crime. We are not saying that the both should be bailed conditionally or unconditionally. But death penalty is something which we do not condone,” he said while walking in a protest march.

Lee Rush, the father of one of the other drug mules Scott Rush. Said Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran would ‘never be my friend’, but I wouldn’t want to see them shot!, it’s inhumane and against Human Rights. Mr. Rush was the one who tip the Australian Federal Police about Scott’s overseas trip, thinking that the police would stop him at the Sydney airport. Instead they let him go to Bali even though he had prior convictions on record, into the death trap they had set. Sending a letter to it’s Indonesian Counter Parts and the rest is history.
Lawyers and friends of the mules have time and time again insistead that the Austlian Fedral Polices handling of the case was done with poor judgement. A second complaint about the Australian Fedral Police in the handling of the matter will be filed in Australia, and now friend’s of the two traffickers are now trying there best to give them a life line. This includes asking the United Nations Human Rights Council to step in, in the last bid to save their lives with letters and petitions pleading for their lives. Only the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo will be able to give them that life line under Indonsian law.
