Barnes & Noble Invites Customers to March Children’s Storytime Events Where Kids Can Explore Their Imaginations and Discover a Love of Reading

Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE:BKS), the nation’s largest retail bookseller and the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced its March 2015 lineup of free Storytime events for children and families, all designed to celebrate the joy of reading. At each event, the stories may be read on the new Samsung Galaxy Tab® 4 NOOK®, a full-featured Android tablet that combines Samsung’s leading technology and NOOK’s extraordinary content and reading experience.

The month kicks off with the NEA’s Read Across America Storytime on Monday, March 2 (Dr. Seuss’s birthday), at 7 p.m. with readings of the Dr. Seuss classics The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham and Oh, the Places You’ll Go!, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2015.

Students, parents, educators and consumers nationwide are invited to join Barnes & Noble for this annual celebration of reading among millions of fans and say HATS OFF TO READING! The event features fun activities and free bookmarks for 50 participants at every store to help celebrate the joy of reading.

The Cat in the Hat costume character will be a special guest to celebrate the day at two stores during this event:

  • New York City – Tribeca – 97 Warren Street; and
  • Los Angeles – The Grove - 189 The Grove Drive.

Once Upon A Cloud Storytime - The featured story is Barnes & Noble’s March Picture Book of the Month selection, the company’s choice of the most engaging and entertaining stories. On Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores will feature Claire Keane’s debut picture book Once Upon A Cloud (fresh from her work on Frozen and Tangled), a visually stunning story about finding the right present for someone you love. Celeste wants to give her mother something special—but what? Her search takes her up into the skies, where she meets the stars, the moon and the sun, but she still doesn’t find the heartfelt present she’s been looking for. At the end of her journey, Celeste sees it—the perfect gift! Coloring and writing activities round out the fun at the event.

Mustache Baby Storytime – On Saturday, March 14, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores celebrate mustaches in a fun way. In Bridget Heos’ story, Baby Billy is born with a mustache, and his family takes it in stride. They are reassured when he nobly saves the day in imaginary play sessions as a cowboy or cop and his mustache looks good-guy great. But as time passes, their worst fears are confirmed when little Billy’s mustache starts to curl up at the ends in a suspiciously villainous fashion. Plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor and cartoonish illustrations make this the perfect baby-shower gift for a mustachioed father-to-be. The author’s new title, Mustache Baby Meets His Match, may also be read at the event.

Author Bridget Heos will be the special guest reader during the event at the Barnes & Noble store in Kansas City, MO, located at 8625 Northwest Prairie View Road.

Edmund Unravels Storytime – On Saturday, March 21, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores will host a Storytime featuring Edmund Unravels by Andrew Kolb. This delightful debut picture book celebrates both the joy of venturing into the unknown and the value of staying connected to loved ones at home. It stars a little ball of yarn that can’t resist the tug of adventure, the twists and turns of discovery, or the comfort of family and friends. Participants will enjoy fun activities at the event.

Duck & Goose Storytime – On Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble stores nationwide will host a Storytime featuring Tad Hills’ book, Duck & Goose. This New York Times Bestseller and ALA-ALSC Notable Children's Book stars two unforgettable characters and is filled with humor that young children will appreciate and recognize. Duck and Goose have to work at getting along. Duck doesn’t much care for Goose at first, and Goose isn’t fond of Duck. But both want the egg that each claims to be his. As the two tend to their egg and make plans for the future, they come to appreciate one another’s strengths. Participants will enjoy fun with stickers and activities and making Duck & Goose masks or finger puppets. Parents and guardians are encouraged to take photographs of their children wearing their masks or playing with their finger puppets at the Storytime and share them on their social media venues using the hashtags #BNStorytime and #DuckAndGoose.

Special Offer:

From now until April 6, 2015, while supplies last, the Duck & Goose Colors board book is only $3.99 with the purchase of any two children’s books.

Barnes & Noble Storytimes are free and open to the public. All events are subject to change. Customers should visit the Barnes & Noble Store Locator for more information about events at their local store. During all Barnes & Noble Storytime readings and activities, parents and guardians are encouraged to take pictures and post to their personal social media sites using the hashtag #BNStorytime.
