Hybrid vehicle batteries are “plugged-in” to traditional electrical power outlets in order to recharge the battery via a standard electrical current. Plug-in batteries are designed to allow the vehicle to perform as a fully functioning electrical car, reducing the use of gasoline and thus resulting in superior fuel mileage. Although most hybrids recharge their batteries through reclaimed energy harnessed through regenerative braking, these devices depend on the internal combustion engine as a means of providing a backup power source when the battery needs charged.
