Books-A-Million and Kim Cross Partner to Support Alabama Tornado Victims

Books-A-Million will host Kim Cross for five appearances on her tour promoting her debut book, “What Stands in a Storm.” The tour begins March 10 at the Brookwood Mall Books-A-Million in Birmingham, Alabama. Copies of the book will be available for purchase through Books-A-Million at the signing events, and a portion of sales will be donated to memorial scholarship funds that honor college students that died during the April 27, 2011 tornadoes that hit Alabama.

“We are happy to be able to help some of the families that were devastated by the tornadoes,” said Scott Kappler, Vice President of Marketing for Books-A-Million. “The storms made an indelible mark on Alabama and we shouldn’t forget those that were affected the most. Kim’s book helps us to remember that day and the havoc it caused for so many people.”

Cross’s debut book, “What Stands in a Storm” gives a narrative nonfiction account of the tornadoes that hit Alabama on April 27, 2011. The book describes how the events of the day unfolded through the eyes of the first responders, families, meteorologists and storm chasers that the tornadoes impacted the most. The book will be released in conjunction with the start of the book tour on March 10.

“This book is not about tornadoes,” said Cross. “It is a timeless true story of love and loss, and the power of people to weather the unthinkable and lift each other up.”

To participate in a book tour event, customers can purchase “What Stands in a Storm” from Books-A-Million on the day of or before the event. Some stops on the book tour will feature characters from the book, including meteorologists James Spann and Jason Simpson, among others.

Cross begins her book tour in Alabama and travels throughout the Southeast. All signing events at Books-A-Million locations can be found below:
