GameStop Now Accepting Apple Pay in Stores

GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, today announced that customers can start using Apple Pay to make payments with a single touch. GameStop is launching a nationwide rollout of Apple Pay, which transforms mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay to its more than 4,200 U.S. video game stores this month.

GameStop shoppers will find it easier than ever to purchase the latest games, consoles, accessories, and electronics during a quick stop to their favorite video game store. Apple Pay offers a simple and secure way to pay for items.

“We are excited to make it easier and more convenient for our customers to shop at GameStop,” said Jason Cochran, senior vice president of U.S. stores at GameStop. “Providing a positive, memorable customer experience is our top priority. Incorporating the latest in mobile technology, like Apple Pay, into our stores is another way we are offering customers options to help simplify their purchases.”

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When a user adds a credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on their device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code, instead of using the security code from the back of the user’s card.

Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by their credit and debit cards. In GameStop stores, Apple Pay will work with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and the upcoming Apple Watch.

Customers can ask associates at their favorite store if Apple Pay is available at that location.

GameStop’s Spring Mobile retail brand plans to begin accepting Apple Pay later this year.
